Agreement with the Government of Japan

The Government of Japan through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has agreed to provide a grant assistance of Japanese Yen 989 Million to the GoN for the implementation of the Trubhuvan International Airport Modernization Project.
The Government of Japan through Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has agreed to provide a grant assistance of Japanese Yen 989 Million equivalent to NRs 907 million to the Government of Nepal for the implementation of the Trubhuvan International Airport Modernization Project. The Exchange of Note regarding the implementation of the project was signed between the Government of Nepal and Government of Japan, and the Grant Agreement to this effect was signed between the Government of Nepal and Japan International Cooperation Agency. The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Finance, Kathmandu.

The main objective of this project is to enhance the flight safety and airport capacity of Tribhuvan International Airport by improving reliability, efficiency and coverage of existing Radar Surveillance System. The project incorporates (i) expansion of the current TIA surveillance Coverage by installing Monopulse Secondry Surveillance Radar System (MSSR) at Bhattedanda, Lalitpur (ii) replacement of Existing Radar Data Processing and Display System installed at TIA and (iii) radar simulation for Air Traffic services

The Exchange of Notes of this agreement was signed by Mr. Shanta Raj Subedi, Secretary, Ministry of Finance and H.E. Mr. kunio TAKAHASHI, Ambassador of Japan to Nepal on Behalf of their respective Governments.

Likewise, The Grant agreement was signed by Mr. Madhu Kumar Marasini, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Finance, and Mr.Tsutomu Shimizu, Chief Representative, JICA Nepal Office on behalf of the Government of Nepal and Japan International Cooperation Agency, respectively.
